Yoemen win Franklin Tournament undefeated

The Yoemen baseball team participated in a tournament hosted by the Franklin Lions over the weekend. The Yoemen came out of the tournament as the undefeated champions. 

Cameron played Friday against the Gatesville Hornets. The Yoemen would win the game in a close 2-1 pitcher’s duel. Cameron’s only two runs came in the fourth inning. Brannon McCall was the ace on the mound. He pitched six innings and allowed one run off of four hits and two walks. Bobby Borgas pitched one inning and pitched a shutout inning. 

The Yoemen then played three games on Saturday. The first game was against the PFBCA Warriors. Cameron came out on top, winning 9-2. 

The Yoemen got things started in the first inning when Marino Cardona hit an RBI ground out, scoring one run. The second run of the first inning came as Ryan Host came home from third base on a passed ball. After scoring one run in the third inning and another in the fifth, Cameron tallied five runs in the sixth inning. The Cameron batters contributing to the big sixth inning included Sanchez, Greene, and Host, all knocking in runs in the inning. 

The offensive firepower by Cameron was led by Jaidyn Sanchez, Landon Greene, and Ryan Host, who each had RBIs in the inning.

The Yoemen tallied ten total hits on the day. Greene and Host each had multiple hits for Cameron. Greene went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the team in hits. The defense for Cameron was outstanding as they didn’t commit a single error in the field. Host was the winning pitcher for Cameron. The pitcher went four innings, allowing one run on two hits, striking out three and walking one. Bobby Borgas threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Up next for Cameron were the Lorena Leopards. The Yoemen defeated Lorena 13-4 on Saturday. 

Cameron fired up the offense in the first inning, getting an early 4-0 lead. Marino Cardona drew a bases loaded walk, scoring one run. The other three runs came off another bases loaded walk by Bobby Borgas and a two run RBI double by Sanchez. Cameron notched seven runs in the fifth inning. The big inning was thanks to RBI singles by Reyes, Lopez, Cardona, and Borgas. The Cameron offense in the inning was led by Armando Reyes, Tracer Lopez, Marino Cardona, and Bobby Borgas, who each had RBIs in the inning.

Cameron racked up total of 15 hits in the game. Tracer Lopez, Armando Reyes, Jaidyn Sanchez, Dillan Akin, Marino Cardona, and Landon Greene all collected multiple hits for Cameron. Lopez led the team with three hits in four at bats. Landon Greene was the winning pitcher for Cameron. The right-hander surrendered four runs on seven hits over four innings, striking out four and walking zero. Lopez threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

The final game for Cameron was the championship against a familiar district opponent, the Academy Bumblebees. The Yoemen took down the Bumblebees in a 6-1 victory. The Yoemen started the first two innings strong as they jumped to a 5-1 lead over Academy and never looked back. 

Colby Wilson was the winning pitcher for the Yoemen. He pitched five innings and allowed one run on four hits and struck out four batters. Braylon Drake threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.
