Yoemen soccer team does well in tournament play

Last weekend, the Cameron Yoemen soccer team hosted an in-season tournament. 

The Yoemen played two games on Thursday, Jarrell and Giddings. Cameron won the first was against the Jarrell Cougars 4-1. 

The Yoemen started fast with a goal by Michael Morales (7) in the third minute of the game for a 1-0 lead. They continued the pressure with a missed shot on goal from Jorge Willars (17) in the fifth minute, which was followed with a missed corner kick shortly after. The Yoemen stayed aggressive with a free kick header goal by Morales in the tenth minute for a 2-0 lead. Cameron continued the pressure on offense with a missed shot by Jonathon Clouse (11) in the 15th minute, then a missed corner in the 15th minute. 

The Yoemen would score another goal by Clouse in the 20th minute for a 3-0 lead while taking advantage of an error made by the Jarrell goalie. Cameron kept up the pressure with a missed shot on goal by Jarrell in the 25th minute, then scored again shortly after with a goal from Sergio Zandate (3) for a 4-0 lead in the 28th minute, which would be the score going into halftime. 

Cameron kept up the pressure to start the second half with a missed corner kick in the 32nd minute, followed by another missed corner kick in the 37th minute. The momentum began to balance out as the two teams traded sides on the field. Cameron stayed tough and kept up the defense. The offense was still aggressive with a missed shot on goal by Homero Najera (10) in the 50th minute. Jarrell ended the shutout with a goal in the 51st minute to make the score 4-1. Cameron still continued to keep up the pressure with a missed shot by Morales in the last minute, followed by two failed corner kicks in the last minute. The Yoemen would go on to win 4-1.

The second game for the Yoemen was against the Giddings Buffaloes. That game would finish in a 0-0 draw. They would play their final game on Friday against the Lake Belton Broncos, and Cameron would be shut out 2-0. 

Up next the Yoemen were on the road against a former district rival, the Caldwell Hornets.
