Yoemen set for Groesbeck in Bi-District round

The Yoemen Baseball team is set for a playoff run beginning this week.

Cameron will open the Bi-District round of the UIL State Baseball playoffs against two-seed Groesbeck beginning Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Waco ISD Field #2.

The boys will then turn around and play a doubleheader Saturday at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. (if needed) at Waco ISD Field #1.

The Yoemen are the third seed out of District 19-3A.

The Yoemen clinched a playoff spot with a win over Academy on Friday, April 19, but couldn’t get anything going against the Franklin Lions Tuesday night, April 23.

Franklin blanked the Yoemen 5-0 lead by pitcher Avery Archibald.

Luke Greene had a single in the first inning, but the Yoemen couldn’t get anything going.

Jason Llanas took the loss for the Yoemen going six and two-thirds innings allowing five runs on six hits and striking out eight.

Juan Carlos Cardona, Greene and Llanas all had one hit for the Yoemen.

The win puts Franklin solidly in second place going into the playoffs behind Troy. Rogers and Cameron are now tied for third place and will have to play a playoff game to determine placing.

Academy

The Yoemen built a five-run lead going into the fourth inning last Friday night against Academy and then held off a charge for the 6-4 victory clinching them a playoff spot.

Anthony Layne got the win for the Yoemen, lasting seven innings and allowing nine hits and four runs while striking out three.

The Yoemen racked up nine hits. Llanas and Alex Alonso managed multiple hits in the game.
