The Yoemen defeated Lexington 10-0 on Tuesday night.

Brannon McCall didn’t allow a single run in the game. McCall allowed just three hits.

The Yoemen got things started in the first inning when Landon Greene tripled on a 2-1 count, scoring two runs.

They would go on to score three runs in the fourth inning. The Yoemen put the pressure on, lead by an error on a ball put in play by Tracer Lopez and McCall and a fielder’s choice by Ryan Host. A single in the first inning was a positive for Lexington.

McCall got the win for Cameron. The pitcher surrendered zero runs on three hits over five innings, striking out six.

Myles Miller took the loss for Lexington. The hurler went three innings, allowing six runs on three hits, striking out three and walking one.

Jaidyn Sanchez went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Yoemen in hits.

The win moves the boys to 2-0 in district play. They will continue district play in Florence on on Saturday.

The Cameron Yoemen baseball team played two games for a double header on Thursday, March 18, against the Whitney Wildcats.

The Yoemen were defeated in the first game 2-1 in a low scoring battle, then regrouped to shutout the Wildcats in the second game for a 7-0 win. Ryan Host (10) was starting pitcher the game and took the loss for the Cameron Yoemen and overall pitched an excellent game. He pitched seven quality innings, allowing just two runs on only four hits, striking out one and walking one. The Yoemen lost in the first game even though they out hit Whitney five to four. They just couldn’t get that clutch hit to put them over the hump. The Yoemen were not discouraged, and the bats came alive as they finished the day strong by winning the second game of the day.

“Anytime we can win a game it’s always good, especially after we lost. It was a tough game, 2-1,” Coach Hector Delgadillo said. “It could’ve gone either way, we had one more error than they did and that actually cost us a few runs. And we told the kids you don’t lose two at home, so that was the mentality, not going to lose the second one.”

Adam Cardona (1) got the game started by pitching a shutout first inning. On offense, Ryan Host (10) reached first base on a bunt single, then reached second base off a groundout at the next at bat by Landon Greene (9). Cameron still failed in the bottom of the first inning.

Adam Cardona allowed a leadoff single, the runner stole second base. The Wildcat runner would be thrown out at home plate off a great throw by left fielder, Brannon McCall (6) and a great tag by catcher, Bobby Borgas (7) on a line drive single for the second out of the inning. The top of the second inning would end on a groundout two at bats later, keeping the score tied at 0-0.

“I think pitching and defense is the backbone of our team right now,” Delgadillo said.  “Defensively, I think our kids are just aware that we can play defense, and the job they do day in and day out, kudos to them for coming out and getting it done. That’s what’s going to help us in the long run.”

The bottom of the second inning got started with a leadoff single by Adam Cardona. Cameron was able to bring him home on an RBI (runs batted in) double by Dillan Akin (4) for the first run for of the game. That would eventually be followed with an RBI bunt single by Marino Cardona (15), scoring Akin for the second run for the Yoemen. Tracer Lopez (3) added to the offense with an RBI double, scoring Borgas to make the score 3-0. The Yoemen would score their fourth run on an RBI sacrifice bunt by Host, scoring Marino Cardona. The bottom of the second inning ended on a groundout.

“We came out great, and we started with that big run inning, a four runs in that inning, and we just kept trying to add and not be satisfied, so it was great,” Delgadillo said.

Adam Cardona backed up the team’s offense on the mound and pitched a shutout third inning. McCall hit a leadoff single to start the bottom of the third inning for Cameron. The Yoemen could not capitalize on the leadoff hit as the third inning ended with them grounding into a double play.

After getting two easy outs in the top of the fourth inning, the Yoemen found themselves in some bases loaded trouble. Cameron fought hard and avoided the two out scare with a groundout in the top of the fourth inning. Cameron couldn’t score in the bottom of the fourth inning which would send them back on defense for the top of the fifth inning.

Adam Cardona allowed a one out double. After giving up a single to the next Whitney batter, Adam Cardona would get the top of the fifth inning to end on a double play. Lopez started the bottom of the fifth inning in exhilarating fashion as he reached third base on a bunt due to a costly throwing error by Whitney. Host would get in on the action with an RBI single to send Lopez home for a 5-0 lead. The bottom of the fifth inning ended on a pop out. Coach Delgadillo would make a pitching change in the sixth inning. Lopez came in for Adam Cardona. Adam pitched an impressive game in his five innings, allowing just five hits and one walk.

“Adam had more then,” Delgadillo said. “One pitch and that’s huge for him. His changeup was working early on, and he had his curveball. Either one he can throw for a strike and that helped him out a lot. Plus, defensively, that’s always good to know the guys have his back so that’s huge.”

Lopez gave his team great relief on the mound and pitched a clean sixth inning. Adam Cardona started the bottom of the sixth inning with a leadoff single, and advanced to second base on sacrifice bunt by Akin. The Yoemen offense followed that up with an RBI double by Borgas for a 6-0 lead. Borgas would then steal third base, which would be followed with an RBI groundout by Marino Cardona to send Borgas home for a 7-0 score.

“Today it was just trying to keep good AB’s (at bats),” Delgadillo said. “We just want to go out there and have good AB’s, trying to work the ball the other way. And we’ve been working a lot of situations in practice to where we come up with a runner on third, less than two, let’s try to drive them in. So just the mindset of having that. Really for us, it was getting the ball on the ground. We bunted the ball well today, we executed and that’s always huge for everybody.”

Continuing in the sixth inning, Armando Reyes (2) reached first base on an error. The inning came to an end on a groundout by Lopez on a close play to first base. Lopez went back on the mound and pitched a shutout inning to end the game 7-0. With this win, the Yoemen now have a record of 11-5.
