Yoemen get first district loss

The Yoemen took their first district loss of the season on Saturday to Academy.

They fell 8-7 on the final play of the game. 

The game was tied at seven with Little River Academy batting in the bottom of the seventh when Ward singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.

Despite the loss, the Yoemen did collect nine hits in the high-scoring affair. Academy had nine hits on the way to victory.

The Yoemen captured the lead in the second inning, scoring one run when Ryan Host singled.

They tallied three runs in the fifth inning. Yoe’s big bats in the inning were led by a single by Jaidyn Sanchez and by Braylan Drake.

Hoffman led Academy to victory on the hill. Hoffman went seven innings, allowing seven runs on nine hits and striking out one.

Host took the loss for the Yoemen. Host allowed five hits and five runs over three and two-thirds innings, striking out two.

Adam Cardona started the game for the Yoemen. The lefty lasted three innings, allowing four hits and three runs while striking out three

Yoe tallied nine hits in the game. Cardona, Dillan Akin, and Sanchez all managed multiple hits. Sanchez, Akin, and Cardona each collected two hits.

The Yoemen now have a huge week ahead as they travel to archrival Rockdale on Tuesday before finishing up their regular season slate against Rogers at home.

Friday`s game will be huge as both teams are tied for first in district play at 9-1.
