Yoemen busy on the mound over Spring Break

The Cameron Yoemen baseball team played a game for three straight days over Spring Break. 

The first game was their district opener at home against the Caldwell Hornets on Tuesday. The Yoemen were victorious over Caldwell and defeated them 5-3. 

Brannon McCall (6) started on the mound for Cameron and pitched a shutout first inning. Tracer Lopez (3) came to bat for Cameron in the bottom of the first inning and led off with a line drive single. He would come home on an RBI double by Ryan Host (5) to give the Yoemen an early 1-0 lead. Host then circled the bases on an RBI single by Marino Cardona (15) to make it a 2-0 lead. McCall then reached first base on a walk but didn’t score as the first inning ended on a fly out. 

McCall returned to the mound and pitched clean second inning. Cameron came to bat in the bottom of the second inning and got a leadoff walk from Jaidyn Sanchez (11). He came home on a smoked RBI double by Lopez for a 3-0 Yoemen lead. Camerons lead extended to 5-0 on an incredible 2 run inside the park home run by Landon Greene (9). The exciting second inning ended on a strikeout. From the third inning on, the game became a pitcher’s duel as neither team was able to score for the next four innings.

The Hornets scored three runs in the failed comeback attempt, but Cameron still managed to pull out the 5-3 victory. The big inning for Caldwell came thanks to two consecutive singles. Brannon Mccall led the Yoemen to victory on the mound. The ace surrendered two runs on two hits over six and two-thirds innings, striking out eight. Lopez came in and threw the last third of the seventh inning in relief out of the bullpen to earn the save for Cameron. 

On Wednesday, the Yoemen traveled to San Antonio to take on the Cornerstone Christian Warriors. Cameron unfortunately, came out on the losing end, falling to the Warriors 15-1. The travel continued for the Yoemen as they headed to Blanco to take on the Panthers.

The Yoemen fell to Blanco in a close battle 5-3. The Panthers got things moving in the first inning against Landon Greene on the mound with a single on a line drive to centerfield, scoring the first run of the game. The Yoemen answered with two runs in the second inning to take the lead. Those runs came off a big RBI triple by Jaidyn Sanchez. 

Blanco knotted the game back up at two in the bottom of the third inning, as an error caused a score and a run for the Panthers. Blanco tried to pull away with two runs in the fourth inning to make their lead 4-2. In that fourth Blanco singled to right field, scoring a run, the second run came off of a double play groundout. After that the teams exchanged scores. 

Cameron scored one run in the top of the fifth when an error caused a score and a run for the Yoemen. Blanco then answered with one of their own with a single on a ground ball to second base, scoring the game sealing run to give the Panthers a 5-3 win over Cameron. 

The Yoemen had six hits in the game. Jaidyn Sanchez and Landon Greene all had multiple hits for Cameron. Greene and Sanchez each collected two hits to lead the team. Landon Greene took the loss on the mound for Cameron. Greene surrendered five runs on 12 hits over six innings, striking out four and walking none.
