Yoe Cross Country competes at Pro-Fit
The Cameron Yoemen cross country teams competed in the Pro-Fit Invitational on Sept. 3 located at Wilson Park in Temple.
The girl’s side only had participant, Yierra Flemings in the two mile run who ended up finishing in sixth place with a time of 13:09.
The boy’s team competed in the three mile run against 18 schools from 1A-4A and finished in fourth place with an overall score of 137.
Nathan Evans was the first boy in the meet to cross the finish line with a time of 16:48. Damon Flemings finished twelfth with a time of 18:12, Brady Havens finished 20th with a time of 18:39, Tracer Lopez finished 53rd with a time of 19:58, Joshua Jochec came in 78th with a time of 20:58, and Brock Wright finished in 90th with a time of 21:28.
“This was a good day overall and we are on schedule in most cases,” Coach Dale Keen said. “Do some of the team need to work harder? Absolutely but we have a team of many beginners and sometimes it takes a while to learn how to make the ultimate effort in practice and meets but it is very encouraging what we are seeing in most cases. We must love the fact the boys beat Rogers as we have not done that in a while. Our supporting runners must stay closer together, not by our leaders slowing down but by keeping our leaders in sight. Brady is a good person to key on. He finished 20th which is incredible but to be a state team we must have 2 more runners that can stay with him. When we achieve that in training, we might have a chance in a meet.”
Keen said the girls are progressing but there are many questions that need to be answered.
“Who are we really? The season is going to go fast and we can’t waste a day by attitude or careless attendance or effort,” he said. “It will be educational to watch what happens. Commitment, attitude, and toughness are catch words that actually are very meaningful that give a team it’s personality. Everyone must decide for themselves who they are going to take direction from and who is going to be the prevailing influence in their life. This can be an exciting season or we can fall on our face! The choice is ours.”
Cameron’s next meet will be Saturday, Sept. 11, and it will be hosted by McGregor.
