Lady Yoe start season by hosting tournament

The Cameron Lady Yoe volleyball team hosted an in season tournament this weekend. The Lady Yoe had a pretty good weekend, going 2-4. Cameron played two games on Thursday. The first game was against the Mumford Lady Mustangs, and Mumford swept the Lady Yoe 2-0. 

The first point of the first set went to Mumford. Cameron had some early struggles and trailed 5-2. The Lady Yoe came marching back and tied the set at 6 on a kill by Saydi Wimmer (12). The set stayed even until Mumford took a 13-10 lead, but the Lady Yoe continued to fight with a big ace by Liberty Alonzo (6) to make it a 14-12 deficit. 

Cameron would continue to fight and would take the lead 15-14 on a kill with a shot by Kennedy Banks (11). Mumford kept it close but Cameron stayed ahead with a kill by Kasara Brooks (5) to take a 17-15 lead. The Lady Mustangs fought back and retook the lead 18-17, but Cameron stayed alive with help from a kill by Cheyenne White (9) to make it a 20-19 deficit. Mumford went on a 4-1 run to go up 24-20 on Cameron. Wimmer spiked down a big kill to make it a 24-21 game, but Mumford finished the job and took the first set from the Lady Yoe 25-21. 

The first point of the second set went to Mumford. The Lady Yoe responded with two straight points, including a block by Yierra Flemings (2) for a 2-1 lead. Mumford would surge to go up and take the lead over Cameron 6-3. 

Cameron continued to fight with a kill by Crystal Daniels (7) for a 9-7 deficit, then the Lady Yoe tied the set at 9. Mumford then began to pull away and grew the Lady Yoe deficit to 13-9, then spread the lead 17-9. Cameron tried to keep the energy up with a kill by Brooks to make the score 23-12, but it was not enough and Cameron would lose the second set 25-14 and lose the match 2-0. 

The Lady Yoe then played their second and final game of the day against the Milano Lady Eagles. The Lady Yoe were shut out by Milano, losing the first set 25-11 and the second set 25-9. Cameron would then return to action and play four games on Saturday. The first game was against the Holland Lady Hornets, and the Lady Yoe were victorious, winning the match 2-1.

The first two points of the first set went to Cameron. Holland came back and tied the set at 2, then took the lead 3-2. Cameron stayed close with a kill by Yierra Flemings (2) to make it a 4-3 deficit. The Lady Yoe tied the set at 4, then Holland would score three straight points to go ahead 7-4. Cameron tried to come back with a big kill by Kennedy Banks (11) to trail 8-6, then tied the set at 8. The set stayed even and Cameron tied the set at 10 on an ace by LaShannon Lewis (4). The Lady Yoe retook the lead 11-10, then increased the lead to 14-12 with a kill by Kasara Brooks (5). 

The Lady Hornets stormed back and took back the lead 15-14. Cameron would retake the lead and stayed ahead with two consecutive aces by Mackenzie Mahan (8) for a 18-16 lead, then grew their lead to 20-16. Holland tried to start a rally but that was halted with a clutch kill by Brooks for a 23-19 lead, and the Lady Yoe went on to win the first set 25-20. 

The first two points of the second set were scored by Holland. Cameron responded with two points of their own aided with a kill by Flemings to tie the set at 2. Cameron took the lead 3-2, then Holland went on a 4-1 run to go up 6-4. Cameron got a kill by Lewis for an 8-7 deficit, then tied the set up at 8. Holland started to pull away and gained a 14-8 advantage. 

Cameron broke the drought with two consecutive aces by Liberty Alonzo (6) for a 14-11 deficit, but then Holland went on another run and Cameron trailed 19-12. The Lady Yoe still showed some fight and went on a 5-0 spurt and made the score 19-17. The Lady Hornets began to surge again, but Cameron would get a kill by Saydi Wimmer (12) to make the score 23-18, but it wasn’t enough as Cameron lost the second set 25-22. 

The first point of the third set went to Holland. Cameron responded with a 4-0 run and took a 4-1 lead. Cameron kept up the attack with a perfectly placed ace by Alonzo for a 7-3 lead, which was soon followed with an incredible combined block by Crystal Daniels (7) and Lewis to increase their lead to 8-4. Wimmer kept the scoring run going with an amazing kill for a 10-4 lead, and the Lady Yoe soon grew the lead to 13-4. Holland tried to start a rally but it was halted with a kill by Wimmer to keep the Lady Yoe lead 14-6. Cameron closed strong and went on to win the third set 15-7 to win the match 2-1.

The second game of the day for the Lady Yoe was against the Killeen Lady Roos. Cameron swept Killeen 2-0, winning the first set 25-23 and the second set 25-17. Up next for the Lady Yoe was a matchup with the Jarrell Lady Cougars. Cameron was swept by Jarrell 2-0, losing the first set 25-19 and the second set 25-16. The final game of the day for Cameron was against the Granger Lady Lions. Cameron was swept by Granger 2-0, losing the first and second set 25-11. 

The Lady Yoe had a road matchup on Tuesday with the Robinson Rockets. Cameron was swept by Robinson 3-0, losing the first set 25-22, the second set 25-15, and third set 25-14. 

Up next for the Lady Yoe, they will be playing in an in season tournament hosted by Huntsville. Details regarding their games and game times are yet to be announced.
