Lady Yoe softball season begins Tuesday

After a shortened season last year due to COVID-19 and a longer than usual offseason, the Cameron Lady Yoe Softball will soon be back in business playing ball.

Their season was cancelled after their last played game against Rockdale, where they beat the Lady Tigers 6-5 in 2020. Cameron was supposed to face White Oak when the season was unfortunately cut short.

It has been a unique and challenging offseason, but Coach Chris Sommerfeld sais that, “it has just taken a lot of flexibility and patience.”

This game on Tuesday against the West Lady Trojans was just a scrimmage and will not count in the standings, but Coach Sommerfeld still saw lots of bright spots from his team.

“I thought we performed well,” Sommerfeld said. “On one hand it builds a lot of confidence that we can play with a great team like West. At the same time, scrimmages don’t earn playoff spots. We have to understand where we are and how we get to where we want to be.”

He also has lots of confidence in his team, with many of them having the potential to be breakout players.

“We are fortunate we have several great candidates to breakout. It’s just a matter of being disciplined and putting in the time,” Sommerfeld said.

There first game of the season will be against the Mumford Lady Mustangs at home. The game will on be Tuesday, Feb. 16, with first pitch at 6 p.m.
