Lady Yoe defeat Lexington

The Lady Yoe basketball team got a win and a loss this week in district play. 

They traveled to Rogers on Friday, Jan. 28, to face the Rogers Lady Eagles. They were defeated by the Lady Eagles 54-31. The Lady Yoe then hosted the Lexington Lady Eagles on Tuesday night and they were victorious 49-35. 

The Lady Yoe scored on a basket by Mia Wimmer (11) to aid a 6-2 start. Lexington then made the score 6-5 and soon tied the game at 7. Cameron responded with a basket by Harmony Bennett (4) to take back the lead 9-7. The Lady Yoe turned up the defense and scored on a fastbreak layup by Camryn Ward (22) for a 13-7 lead off a steal. The first quarter ended with Cameron ahead of Lexington 14-9.

Cameron got off to good start in the second quarter that was aided by a basket from Amani Fields (24), making it a 20-12 lead. That would be followed with a basket at the buzzer by Aliya Salazar (30) for 24-18 lead going into halftime. Cameron continued to hold Lexington back as they scored on a layup by Kaly White (3) for a double digit 28-18 lead. That was soon followed up with a fastbreak layup by Ward making the lead 32-21. Lexington tried to come back and shortened their deficit to 32-27. The third quarter ended with the Lady Yoe winning 33-28.

The scoring for the Lady Yoe in the fourth quarter was started with a successful three-point play by Wimmer making the score 36-28. The lead for Cameron increased to 41-30. The Lady Yoe continued the barrage until the last second, they scored on a buzzer-beating basket by Wimmer and went on to win 49-35. 

The next match for the Lady Yoe will be on the road as they will take on the Lady Hornets of Caldwell. The game will be on Friday and tip-off is scheduled for 6:15 p.m.
