Brashear, Cardona state bound in tennis
The Cameron Yoe Boys Doubles Tennis Team of Marino Cardona and Nolan Brashear competed in the 3A Region 3 Tennis Tournament at A&M Consolidated in College Station on Monday and Tuesday finishing in second and moving on to state.
They won their first match on Monday 6-4, 6-2 defeating Anthony Pantoja and Andrew Boles of McGregor.
In their quarterfinal match on Monday, they defeated Brandon Turnage and Hayden Castrella of Central Heights 6-4,6-4 to move to the semifinals on Tuesday.
Brashear and Cardona won their semifinal match Tuesday morning against Jesus Antonio and Francisco Ibarra of Kirbyville 6-1,6-2 to move to the finals. They fell to the team of Jonathan Golvin and Samuel Golvin from Academy 6-2, 6-2 in the Finals. Brashear and Cardona then defended their second place spot in the Playback Match by defeating Fletcher Colgan and Jack Lasater of Central Heights 7-5, 6-1.
As the second place finisher in the region, Brashear and Cardona move on to the 3A State Tennis Tournament in San Antonio on May 20 and 21 in San Antonio. Their season record is currently 24-4.
