Bulldogs remain atop District 27-2A with sweep over Granger

The Thorndale Bulldogs (17-4, 6-0) remain atop the District 27-2A standings with a sweep over Granger. Bulldogs head coach Kelly Kuhl said that despite being undefeated in league play, their next series against rival Thrall will be important. Coach Kuhl also announced “Youth Night” on Friday at the baseball field. “All youth are invited to run onto the field with the Bulldogs for the national anthem. Wear your Thorn-dale gear or little league uniform and meet behind the Bulldogs dugout at 6:45 p.m.,” he said. Thorndale is scheduled to host Thrall on Friday and travel to play the Tigers on Tuesday. In Monday’s contest, the Bulldogs defeated the Lions 13-1, scoring 10 runs in the third inning. Collin Taylor tossed the win for Thorndale, striking out four and walking four. Thorndale had seven hits on the night. Scott Guzman, Ty Kovar, Mason Kuhl, Michael Herzog, Justin Paxton, Kellen Hubnik and Taylor all recorded hits in the contest. Guzman had a triple and batted in three runs. On Saturday, the Bulldogs snagged a 16-5 road win over the Lions. It was a big game for Ty Kovar, who hit a grand slam in the second inning and also collected the win on the mound. Kovar went two for four, with six RBIs. On the rubber, Kovar struck out six and walked four on his way to victory Two other Bulldogs also went yard against Granger on Saturday. Corey Preusse and Logan Davis each hit a home run in the fourth inning. Davis went three for three in the game and Preusse was two for four. Kellen Hubnik and Guzman had two hits apiece, with Hubnik scoring three runs and Guzman collecting four RBIs. Taylor and Herzog each recorded a hit and Justin Paxton scored a run. Thorndale tallied 13 hits in the game. The Bulldogs’ JV team also had two wins over Granger last week 15-0 and 14-1.
