Bulldogs fall in bi-district round to Schulenburg

The Thorndale Bulldogs played the Schulenburg Shorthorns in the bi-district round of the playoffs on Tuesday. They came up short in a soul crushing 52-51 defeat. 

Thorndale had a chance to win but the Shorthorns finished the game on a 14-0 run to end the Bulldogs season. Congratulations to the Bulldogs on still having a great season and achieving great things this year. 

The Thorndale Bulldogs basketball team fell to the Milano Eagles on Thursday 58-53. With this loss, the Bulldogs finish the regular season at 23-10 and a district record of 7-3. Thorndale will go into the playoffs as a second seed. 

Milano started the game strong with a three point make for an early 4-0 Eagles lead. Thorndale responded with a layup by Dereck Cauble (11) for a 4-2 score. Milano then completed a three point play for a 7-2 lead. The Bulldogs continued to fight with a hard fought layup by Branson McCoy (3) to make the score 11-6. Thorndale marched back and took a 12-11 lead on a basket by Blake Roberts (1). The Bulldogs scored on a buzzer beating putback layup by Cauble with less than 0.5 seconds on the clock to end the first quarter deadlocked at 14.

Thorndale started the scoring in the second quarter with a three pointer by Chance Betak (23) to take a 17-14 lead. That was soon followed with a layup by Cauble making it a 22-17 lead. The Eagles responded with a three point shot to make the score 25-22 Thorndale. Milano fought back to make the score 27-24. The Bulldogs answered back with a three pointer by Kaden Kovar (4) for a 30-24 lead. Thorndale went into halftime ahead of Milano 33-24. 

Milano started their scoring in the third quarter with an open basket to make it a 34-26 deficit. Thorndale then made it a double digit lead with a layup by Roberts to make the score 39-29. The third quarter ended with Thorndale in the lead 41-32. The fourth quarter started with a three pointer by Roberts for a 44-34 Thorndale lead. Milano soon responded with a three point make of their own for a 44-39 deficit. 

The Eagles made it a two point game with a three point play to make the score 44-42. Milano would then take the lead 46-44 lead on a three-point make and soon grew the lead to 52-46 lead. The Eagles would score again on a layup with Thorndale still trailing 56-49. Thorndale would go on to lose 58-53 and finished the season in second place in the district standings.
