MCT to present Harvey on stage

Milam Community Theater will present the heartfelt, Pulitzer-prize winning play, “Harvey,” by Mary Chase, Feb. 24 and 25, and March 2 and 3, at the Williams Event Center in Cameron.

“Harvey” is the story of Elwood P. Dowd, an affable drunk who starts having visions of a giant, invisible rabbit, and his family with whom he lives. His sister, Veta, worries that Elwood has gone insane. In the process of trying to have him committed, Veta admits that she occasionally sees Harvey herself, and ends up getting committed herself. The director of the mental home, Dr. Chumley, tries to reconcile his duty to help Elwood with his own growing experiences with the giant, invisible rabbit.

Opening night of this show, Saturday, Feb. 24, includes a dinner theater and is $45 per person. Tickets to the other shows are $18 each. The deadline for reservations to the dinner theater is Friday, Feb. 16.

Show times are 7 p.m. for the Saturday performances and 2 p.m. for the Sunday matinees. Ticket and reservation information is available under the Box Office tab on the theater’s website, milamcommunitytheater.com.

The cast includes several MCT favorites as well as a handful of newcomers. Seth Tyson plays Elwood and Kelita Thomas plays his sister, Veta. Breanna Ameigh plays Veta’s daughter, Myrtle Mae, and Randy Tyson plays the family lawyer, Judge Gaffney.

The staff at the sanitarium are Savana Everett as Nurse Kelly, Kalib Teetz as Dr. Sanderson, Maurice Goza as Dr. Chumley, and Jeff Teetz as Wilson. Chris Wilson (Mrs. Chavunert), Susan Angely (Mrs. Chumley) and Mona Butala (the cab driver) round out the company.

Richard Stone directs this production with assistance from Sheryl Teetz.

The Williams Event Center is at 408 Columbus in Cameron.
