Melton’s sentence will stand

On June 14, the 3rd Court of Appeals issued a mandate and the conviction of Alvin Melton was affirmed.

This means the convictions and sentences will stand and Alvin Melton will serve his 25 year sentence.

On May 8, 2019, after a three day jury trial, a Milam County jury returned a “Guilty” verdict after short deliberation, finding Alvin Dejuan Melton, 36, of Cameron guilty of 1st Degree Felony, Murder.

The jury assessed punishment of 25 years confinement in TDCJ after a sentencing hearing held May 9, 2019.

First Assistant District Attorney Brian Price prosecuted the State’s case and handled the appeal.

After reviewing the case, the appellate court found no issues in the trial, affirming the conviction and recognizing the fairness and integrity of the legal process.
