Milam County 4-H members place high at Texas 4-H State Roundup

Texas 4-H Roundup was held June 6-9 in College Station! We had many successes, and we are so excited to share these amazing results! A total of 18 4-H members attended Texas 4-H Roundup and all 4-H members competing placed in the top 10 in one of their contests. 

Agriculture Product Identification Contest:

We had four compete in AG Product ID. The following team of four won Fourth place team at the contest: Klay Eschberger, Robert Miller, Trenton Strmiska, and Jack Luckey. 

They competed against 21 teams. Coaches: Klay Eschberger and April Eschberger

Plant Identification Contest: 

We had four compete in Plant Identification Contest. The following team of four won First place team at the contest: Jenna Lindig, JW Hollas, Jason Ponnaiya, and Ryan Luckey.

The following won individually: Jenna Lindig – second place; JW Hollas - fourth place; Jason Ponnaiya - fifth place. Thank you, Coach Irby McWilliams! 

Consumer Decision Making Contest:

We had nine compete in the Consumer Decision Making Contest. The following teams placed in the top 10 out of 25 teams! 

First place team (going to Nationals!) - Jack Luckey - fourth place individual ; Robert Miller - seventh place individual ; Klay Eschberger; Ryan Luckey. Sixth place team: JW Hollas - Eighth place individual; Colton Barbo; Camryn Green; and Macy McDaniel.

Also, we are super proud of Tessa Vaculin for competing as an individual! She placed first at District and was able to compete individually at State. Coach is Micah Holcombe.

Healthy Lifestyles Contest:

We had a team of four compete in the Healthy Lifestyles contest. The team of four placed second place. Team members were: Hannah Bakken - ninth individual ; Macy McDaniel - seventh individual; Robert Miller - eighth individual; and Klay Eschberger. Thank you, Coach Elizabeth Miller.

Public Speaking Contest:

Tessa Vaculin won at District Contest in Public Speaking and won the spot to compete at State! She did great and won third place at Texas 4-H Roundup! Thank you to her Coach Cassie Callahan and mom Teri Vaculin! 

Invitational Livestock Judging Contest:

We had a team compete at the Invitational Livestock Judging Contest. This team of 3 competed and placed eighth. Team members were: Jenna Lindig - fourth individual; Adison Dach; and Emily Minetrea.

Thank you to our new Ag Agent, Josh Evans, for helping check them in and provide support. Thank you to our past Ag Agent, Floyd Ingram, for helping coach them throughout the year. 

We also were excited to honor our graduates as they received their scholarships at Texas 4-H Roundup! An outstanding $73,000 went back to Milam County! 

Scholarship winners were: Natalie Garcia - $20,000 Houston Livestock Show; Marisol Hill - $20,000 Houston Livestock Show; JW Hollas - $20,000 Houston Livestock Show ; Colton Barbo - $5,000 Texas 4-H Foundation/Volunteer Leaders Association; Ryan Luckey - $5,000 Texas 4-H Foundation/Producers Cooperative Association; and Connor Barton - $3,000 Texas 4-H Foundation/Texas Brush Country-SCI.
