Ferguson Honored

Milam County Mental Health Deputy Sam Ferguson IV was honored with the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Achievement for Valor on the Texas House Floor last week.  District 17 Representative Stan Gerdes as well as a number of MCSO team members were on hand to support Ferguson. Ferguson was shot in the face while answering a call for someone in a mental health crisis last fall. He is on the road to recovery. Gerdes said his story inspired his rural law enforcement funding bill that will provide $350 million in additional funding for rural law enforcement agencies to give raises, hire more deputies, purchase equipment and pay for training to be better equipped to deal with situations like this happening way too frequently all over rural Texas.
