Yoemen top Rogers, fall to Lorena to move to 7-2

The Cameron Yoemen baseball team hosted the Rogers Eagles on Friday in a game that was difficult to play due to continuous rain throughout the game. The Yoemen defeated Rogers 2-1 in a game that was a true pitcher’s duel.

All the scoring for Cameron came in the second inning. The Yoemen got on the scoreboard when Mason Kuzel hit a sacrifice fly to bring Armando Reyes home and drive in the first run for Cameron. Cameron scored the second run when Connor Jeter, who came in as a courtesy runner for Dillan Akin after hitting a single, came home to score on a Rogers throwing error. The Eagles scored on a sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh inning, but the Yoemen held strong to win 2-1.

Armando Reyes went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the team in hits. The Yoemen defense was also sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Landen Greene had the most chances in the field with eight great defensive plays, including three incredible plays in the sixth inning.

Ryan Host battled the mucky weather and earned the victory on the hill for Cameron. He pitched all seven innings, allowing one hit and one run while striking out three.

The Yoemen returned to the Yards of Cameron on Tuesday to take on the Lorena Leopards. The Yoemen could not come keep their win streak alive, losing to Lorena 7-1.

With this loss, Cameron has an overall record of 16-7 and a district record of 7-2.

Up next for the Yoemen will be a road game against the Little River Academy Bumblebees. The game will be on Friday and first pitch is set for 7 p.m.
