MCSO traffic stop nets narcotics seizure

Milam County Deputy John Paniagua Jr. “hit a lick” on March 7 while conducting a traffic stop.

While working STEP (Selective Traffic Enforcement Program), Paniagua conducted a traffic stop and located first degree felony weight narcotics. 

Located were 1,193.35 grams of Promethazine; 294.84 grams of Xanax; 898.68 grams of MDMA (ecstasy); 1338.1 grams of Hydrocodone. He also seized $1,765.

Christopher Demon Johnson was arrested for delivery of a controlled substance.

The Milam County Sheriff’s Department will continue the Selective Traffic Enforcement Program through Spring Break this week. 

MCSO Chief Deputy John Mendoza said the department is stepping up patrols along Highway 77 north of Cameron and Highway 79 around Milano over this week.

As part of the Texas Department of Transportation’s Drive Sober, No Regrets campaign for spring break, Milam County Sheriff’s Office and law enforcement officers across Texas will increase DWI patrols to identify and stop impaired drivers. 

The campaign aims to decrease crashes and save lives by reminding drivers how one bad choice - the decision to get behind the wheel after consuming alcohol - can have serious physical, emotional and financial consequences that can last for years. Not only can a DWI hurt or kill someone, it can be expensive and cause significant legal hassles. It can also make it difficult to find or keep a job and can bring a lifetime of regret. The increased enforcement begins March 4 and runs through March 20.
