Yoemen move to 8-1 in district with two wins
The Yoemen basketball team cranked up the offense in the second half and scored 53 points to complete an amazing comeback over Rogers on Friday night 86-81. The Yoemen then hosted the Lexington Eagles on Tuesday and handily defeated them 93-59.
The Yoemen started the game against Lexington strong and scored on a layup by Pharrell Hemphill (4) for an early 5-2 lead. The crowd was then rocked by a slam dunk by Phaibian Bynaum (5) for a score of 10-2, then increased lead to 17-6. Cameron turned up the tempo with a successful three-point play by Bynaum to widen the lead to 20-6. The Yoemen continued to pile on with two straight three pointers by Damon Flemings (13) and a slam dunk by Hemphill to make the score 31-8, which was also the score at the end of the first quarter.
Cameron didn’t miss a step in the second quarter as they increased the lead to 43-13. Then they scored on a three pointer by Hemphill making the score 46-13. The Yoemen stayed hot from the perimeter with two consecutive three pointers by Braylan Drake (15) for a commanding 60-17 lead, which ended up being the score going into halftime.
Cameron continued to be aggressive in the third quarter with a layup by Bynaum for a 66-21 lead. Soon after that layup they would get another layup by Cody Webb (30) for a whopping score of 70-23. The Eagles went on a scoring run but it was stopped with a layup by Charlie Mayer (22) making the lead 74-32. The third quarter ended with Cameron ahead 74-34.
Cameron continued to expand the lead in the fourth quarter to 80-36. It was expanded even more with a three pointer by Drake to make the score 87-46. The Eagles tried to fight back with a scoring run but that didn’t last long as Cameron grew the lead to 93-52, and won the game 93-53.
With this win, the Yoemen record is 21-6 and an impressive district record of 8-1. The next match for the Yoemen will be on the road as they will take on the Hornets of Caldwell. The game will be on Friday and tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
