Cameron VFD gets new fire truck
The Cameron Volunteer Fire Department received a 2021 International Fire Truck from the City of Cameron recently.
This fire truck carries 1,800 gallons of water and can pump 1,000 gallons per minute. It also carries rescue equipment.
Fire Chief Henry Horelica said the Fire Department had a 1985 GMC fire truck that couldn’t pass a pump test and was in very bad condition.
“The City of Cameron has a rating of 4 on the ISO rating (fire insurance) and without the GMC the rate would go up so the city bought this truck to keep our rating,” he said. “This truck will respond to any type of call we have in the city and county.”
The truck cost $240,000.
“The Cameron Volunteer Fire Department would like to thank all of its supporters that donate and assist the Fire Department with the needs of the department,” Horelica said. “In this past year, 2021, we were able to purchase a set of battery operated Hurst Rescue Tools, two rescue saws called K-12 saws, a ten burner commercial stove for our BBQ sales and we have ordered 15 handheld radios. Total for all this is around $40,000, and this was from donations and fundraisers.”
He said a majority of the businesses in Cameron support the department on an annual bases, but the department has some that contribute on a regular bases. He would like to thank Lisa Roden with Rockin Bail Bonds, Jeremy and Courtney Renaud with The Bling Box, Betty Cannaday with First Finance, Matt Feggestad with Charlotte Pipe, and Jamie and Jamie Galvan with Hecho En Texas. They also want to thank the Michael Grider and Cole Robertson families for collecting over 300 cases of water for the department.
