Blessings From God Food pantry

The distribution dates for the Blessings From God Food Pantry are: July 20 from 8-9:30 a.m.; August 10 and 24 from 8-9:30 a.m.; Sept. 7 and 21 from 8-9:30 a.m.; Oct. 5 and 19 from 8-9:30 a.m.; Nov. 9 and 23 from 8-9:30 a.m.; Dec. 7 and 21 from 8-9:30 a.m. The pantry is located at 1300 N. Austin in Cameron. They are still accepting donations, please call Franklin Glaser at (254) 455-0380 to donate. Mobile pantry will be at The Yards of Cameron every third Wednesday of the month. 

 

Bea’s Kitchen Meals

Bea’s Kitchen is still giving out frozen meals every other Thursday. If you would like to receive meals, please call (254) 697-2243 as the number has changed.

 

Planning and Zoning applicants

The City of Cameron is looking for applicants for The Planning and Zoning Commission.  Please pick up applications at the front office at City Hall, email Amy Harris at citycam@camerontexas.net or visit www.camerontexas.net.  Applications will be due by July 31, 2021.

 

Tax Office

Effective July 18 the Rockdale Substation will be temporarily closed due to budge/staffing and office repairs. The Cameron lobby is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for taxes and vehicle registration. All title work must be presented in office before 3:30 p.m.

 

COVID-19 Vaccine Clinics

On July 22 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. a clinic will be held in Buckholts at 110 W. Main Street for ages 12 and up. On July 23 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. a clinic will be held at the Milam County Health Department, 209 S. Houston Avenue in Cameron for ages 12 and up. All clinics will offer the Prizer and Moderna vaccines. Appointments are recommended, but walk-ins are always welcome. To schedule an appointment, please call (254) 697-7000. 

 

Nunsense

The Box Office is now open for “Nunsense the Musical.” Stage dates are July 31 and Aug. 1 with encore performances the ensuing weekend. Show times are 7 p.m. Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays. Tickets are $18 for adults and $12 for students. Get tickets online at MilamCommunityTheater.com. Seating will be limited.

 

First Revival

Trinity New Life Worship Center will host a First Revival on Aug. 9-11 at 7 p.m. nightly. The church is at 200 South Crockett in Cameron. Evangelist is Dr. Roy Elton Brackins of Grace Abernacle Baptist Church in Forest Hills. Pastor Charles Wyatt, Senior Pastor.

 

Milam County Memorial Ruck and Ride 

Event officials said the 3rd annual Memorial Ruck and Ride event will be Aug. 14. Each year, veterans and the community gather to pay tribute to our Milam County fallen military members and their families through the ruck march and motorcycle ride. Veteran and adaptive athlete Kris Briggs will lead the 8-mile ruck starting at 9 a.m. from Cameron Fire Station out to Denio’s and back. Veteran and Combat Vets Motorcycle Association member Matthew Klatt will lead the ride starting at 10 a.m. from Brookshire Brothers in Rockdale to the Cameron Fire Station. A lunch honoring Gold Star families will follow with special guest speakers. Everyone is invited to participate in this event and donations are being sought to assist with expenses. Story Time

Children’s Story Time at the Cameron Public Library is on Wednesdays at two different sessions. Pick the one you want. Or come in anytime to browse for books. The times are 10:30 a.m. and  4 p.m. Hope to see some folks on Wednesdays.

 

Old Town Cameron Railroad Museum

The Milam County Railroad Museum and Old Town Cameron will be kicking off new hours for our guests. Beginning in June, summer hours will be 10-4 Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.  We also want to invite all of our Jr. Engineers to join us every Saturday from 10 until 12 to help us run the trains on the Old Town Cameron model and our training layout.  Junior Engineers have been given a special Old Town Cameron pin.  You must wear your pin when you attend.  If you are between the age of 8 and 18, come to the Railroad Museum for a short training course so you can join the fun.  We will be organizing a Junior Engineer Train Club this summer too!  Stay tuned.  

 

Recovery Services

Change 180 Christian Recovery, a free service, is held every Thursday at 7 p.m. at 204 S. Jefferson in Cameron. This is a self help group that focuses on addiction education. For information, email change180CR@gmail.com or call (254) 605-0039.

 

Alcoholics Anonymous

Praise and Worship Night

A special Praise and Worship Night will be held on the first and third Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall in Cameron.
