Thorndale tennis teams tops at district

Thorndale tennis teams are sending several athletes to the next round as lots of hardware came home with the Bulldog and Lady Dog netters from Monday’s district tennis meet.

The Lady Dogs won the District 27-2A championship, with the Bulldogs earning runners-up in their division.

Chloe Grimm won first place in girls’ singles, with teammate Kaylee Beason earning second.

McKenna Biar and Ava Vicknair took second place in the girls’ doubles division.

Wylie Barrett won second place in boys’ singles.

Chance Betak and Dereck Cauble earned first place in the boys’ doubles division.

Jessica Yount and Landin Ellington earned second place in mixed doubles, with teammates Katie Briones and Maddox Rubio finishing third.

Those players placing first or second at the district meet advanced to the regional round.

The Class 2A Region IV tennis tournament will be held April 26-27 at the H-E-B Tennis Center in Corpus Christi.
