Firefighters Honored
The Cameron Volunteer Fire Department honored outstanding firefighters for their service during its annual awards banquet on Aug. 14. The banquet was dedicated to the Trey Summers family. Summers had been a firefighter since 1995 and recently passed away. Jonathan Mendoza was named Firefighter of the Year. Phillip Dohnalik was tabbed as Officer of the Year. The Chief’s Award went to Reverend Tim Cheatham. John Velasco was named Rookie of the Year. The Lifetime Achievement went to assistant Fire Chief John Hillman. Firefighter Doug Baker elected to move into honorary status at 20 years and was presented an Axe. Several other members were awarded service pins.
