Cameron man in serious condition following accident

Two accidents over the last week in Milam County left one dead and one with serious injuries.

Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers responded to a major crash on FM 1600 approximately four miles southwest of the Cameron on Monday, Jan. 27, at around 8 a.m.

According to Trooper Bryan Washko, a 2005 Peterbilt truck tractor hauling sand was southbound on FM 1600. A Case farm tractor driven by a 25-year-old man from Cameron was also southbound on FM 1600. 

The driver of the Peterbilt truck tractor, a 55-year-old male from Kingsland, stated visibility was impaired due to dense fog in the area. 

The Peterbilt truck tractor collided with the rear of the Case tractor causing the driver of the tractor to be ejected as the tractor rolled over. After colliding with the tractor, the Peterbilt rolled onto its driver side spilling the contents of its load (sand) onto the roadway. 

The driver of the Case tractor was transported to Scott and White Medical Center for serious injuries. The driver of the Peterbilt sustained minor injuries. 

The crash investigation is still active and open.

Washko said Texas DPS would like to remind drivers to use extra caution while driving in foggy conditions. Visibility can be impaired due to lack of visibility. Slow down and use low beams and be aware while driving in the fog.

On Friday, Jan. 24, at approximately 8:15 a.m., DPS Troopers responded to a crash on FM 485 near FM 2269, northeast of Cameron. 

DPS Trooper Ryan Howard said a Subaru Outback traveling eastbound struck a construction barrier and a piece of metal from the barrier then went through the windshield, striking the passenger. 

The passenger, Linda Richard, 72, of Temple, was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported. 

The investigation is still active.
