County enters into agreement with PHI for helicopter ambulance services

Milam County has entered into an agreement to provide every resident of the county with emergency helicopter ambulance service.

Milam County Commissioners approved an agreement with PHI, the county’s helicopter ambulance provider, to transport any Milam County resident without any charges, beyond what insurance pays during a meeting June 10.

According to Milam County Judge Steve Young, if the total charge for a helicopter transport is $30,000 and insurance only pays $5,000 there will be no additional charges for the transport. PHI will accept the $5,000 as full payment. For, those who have no insurance, there will be no charge.

Young said this also applies to any Milam County resident picked up in Milam County or in the adjacent counties of Falls, Robertson, Lee, Burleson, Bell and Williamson. Thus, if a Milam County resident is injured in a car wreck while in Hutto, PHI will transport as set forth above.

“This is a great benefit to all of us and I thank our commissioners for supporting and voting in favor of this much needed agreement,” Young said.

A PHI representative will be on the judge’s radio show on June 26 on KMIL to discuss the contract and answer questions about how this will work.
