Student Technology Showcase
CISD will host its Student Technology Showcase on Jan. 31 from 5:30-7 p.m. at Ben Milam and Cameron Elementary. You are invited to see how technology tools are being used to enhance education. Tacos and Technology will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. at the YHS Cafeteria for CJH and YHS. Stroll through students’ interesting technology projects while enjoying tacos.
Blood Drive
A blood drive for Gause resident and Milano High School graduate Dendy Brown is scheduled Jan. 31 at the Gause ISD gym. In Sept. 2018, Dendy was critically injured in an auto accident and required multiple surgeries and transfusions as part of his medical treatment. The drive will take place from 1-7 p.m. at the gym, located at 400 College Street in Gause. Rocky King Band
The Cameron VFW Post 2010 will host the Rocky King Band on Feb. 2. Cost is $20 at the door. Kitchen open from 6:30-10 p.m. Dance from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. The Post is located at 1129 North Highway 36 in Cameron.
Father-Daughter Dance
The Class of 2019 will host the Father-Daughter Dance on Feb. 4 from 6-8 p.m. at the Yoe High Cafeteria with DJ Scott Leonard. Cost is $15 for father and daughter through Jan. 25 and $20 after that date and at the door. Each additional child is $5. Price includes entrance, sweet table, refreshments, and a designated backdrop photo. Other backdrops will be available for a $2 fee. Forms will be handed out at school and should be returned to teachers. For information, call (254) 295-6092.
Yoe Nation Reads - “Bleachers”
The community is invited to read John Grisham’s “Bleachers” during the Yoe Nation Reads reading event Feb. 4 through March 1. This reading event it targeted at sixth through 12th grades. Students will receive their own free copy. Community members can purchase a book for $5 from CISD. Contact Tanya Hoelscher at Central Administration at (254) 697-3512 to save your copy.
Mother-Son Dance
The YHS Class of 2019 will host a royal affair, the Mother & Son Dance on Feb. 7 from 6-8 p.m. at the Yoe High Cafeteria with DJ Michelle Bethell. Cost is $15 for mother and son through Jan. 25 and $20 after that date and at the door. Each additional child is $5. Independence Day Dinner
The Republican Women of Milam County Independence Day Dinner and Program will be on Thursday, Feb. 7, at 6 p.m. at the Cameron VFW Hall. Speaker will be Army Staff Sergeant Earl Granville. Tickets are $50 per person. Catering will be done by the Kostroun’s and will be prime rib will all the trimmings. Lunch Bunch
The Lunch Bunch will meet jointly with the Cameron History Club on Thursday, Feb. 7, at noon at the First United Methodist Church Family Life Center in Cameron. The speaker for the program will be James Burks, Director of Customer Experience with 44 Farms. The public is invited to attend. Bring a food dish to share for the lunch at noon.
Cameron VFD Money Giveaway
Cameron Volunteer Fire Department will hold it’s annual Money Giveaway on Feb. 9 at the Williams Event Center. Tickets are $125. If you would like a ticket please let the Fire Chief or any member of the Department know.
Kenny Orts and No Chance Band
The Cameron VFW 2010 presents Kenny Orts and No Chance Band on Feb. 9 from 8:30 p.m. to midnight. Cost is $15 at the door. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Kitchen open from 6:30-10:30 p.m. Call Melissa at (254) 295-6222 for reservations.
United Church of Christ Cemetery Association
The annual meeting of the United Church of Christ Cemetery Association will be held Feb. 10 at 2:30 p.m. at the Fellowship Hall of the Christian Fellowship Church in Ben Arnold. For more information, contact Curtis Lucko at (254) 697-3742.
Friends of the Library
The next meeting of the Friends of the Library is Monday, Feb. 11, at 5:30 p.m. at the Library. Anyone who is interested in the Library is welcome to attend. We have made a few changes in the Library, with more to come.
Historical Commission
Please join the Milam County Historical Commission for a meeting on Monday, Feb. 11, at 10 a.m. The meeting will be held at Forest Grove Christian Church South of Rockdale. All are welcome to attend.
Fish Fry
San Andres Lodge #170 will hold its annual Fish Fry on Feb. 16 from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Bea’s Kitchen, 101 E. Main in Cameron. Tickets are $8 in advance and at the door. Dine in or carry out. Plates will have fried catfish, pinto beans, hush puppies, cole slaw, iced tea and dessert. Advanced tickets are at True Value Hardware, Cameron Chiropractic Clinic or from any Cameron Mason. Also featuring a silent auction.
Chili Supper
The Milano Volunteer Fire Department’s annual chili supper set for Feb. 16 at the fire station. The event will conclude with the drawing of 10 big prizes for the group’s annual fundraiser. Tickets for the annual drawing are now on sale and are $5 each or five for $20.
Chamber Banquet
The 2019 Cameron Chamber Banquet - Moving Cameron Forward - will be held on Feb. 19 at the Williams Event Center, 408 S. Columbus in Cameron. Social at 6 p.m. Dinner at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 each. For tickets, sponsorships and tables, call (254) 697-4979 or email chamber@cameron-tx.com.
Mardi Gras Bash
The Mardi Gras Bash will be held Saturday, Feb. 23, at Simon George Hall, 401 S. Karnes, in Cameron. The event will start at 6 p.m. and will include a Cajun food dinner, live auction, a gun raffle and activities for the kids. Adult tickets are $10 and children under 18 are $5.
Washers Tournament
A Washers Tournament benefitting the American Cancer Society will be held each second and fourth Sunday of the month at Apache Pass Ice House beginning at 5:15 p.m. Registration starts at 4:30 p.m. Cost is $20 per team, double elimination. Prizes awarded to first, second and third place teams.
Praise and Worship Night
A special Praise and Worship Night will be held on the first and third Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall in Cameron.
Railroad Museum
The Milam County Railroad Museum and Old Town Cameron located at 101 W. Main in Cameron is now open Tuesdays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Volunteers will be glad to open the museum for Civic Club meetings, school field trips or other special occasions on other days. Individuals interested in railroad history, railfanning, or model railroads are encouraged to become a docent of the Museum.
