Commissioners deny fireworks sales for Texas Independence Day

Milam County Commissioners declined to allow fireworks to be sold in the county during Texas Independence Day in March during a meeting on Jan. 28. Cameron Fire Chief Henry Horelica cited very dry conditions during that time of the year and recommended the commissioners not approve the sales. The commissioners agreed and voted 4-0 to decline the motion. The court also approved Bartlett Electric’s request to move power lines on CR 464. County Judge Steve Young was not present at the meeting as he was attending classes, but Commissioner Jeff Muegge read a letter from Young about progress being made on economic development. He said there is another Bitcoin mining operation interested in moving into the county and a railroad unloading dock that is also interested. He said that there is only one of these docks between Austin and Dallas and the county would benefit greatly from this. The judge is currently pursing this project. In other business the commissioners also: approved the monthly treasurer/auditor report; approved the annual CPS contract; approved the racial profiling report from the County Constables; and approved going out for bids for labor only on building a bridge on CR 304.
