UPDATE: Milam County COVID-19 cases now at 42

Milam County's COVID-19 case count is now over 40.

Milam County Judge Steve Young announced this afternoon that the count is now at 42 for Milam County, saying that two more cases have been identified today.  He said both cases were probably infected outside of the county, but both live here and are in self-quarantine.

He reported earlier this morning that the 40th case in the county has been reported.

"Yesterday evening we learned of our 40th case who is a person from the eastern part of the county who tested positive," he said. "We think the infection may have taken place out of county. The person is at home and will self-quarantine."

Young also announced the 39th case yesterday. The 39th case is a younger person from the south central part of the county who works in the county.  The person is self-quarantined at home.

That brings the county to 10 active cases. The Health Department is monitoring over 30 people. None are in the hospital and there is still only one death from the virus.

"We have six new cases so far this week," Young siad. "My guess is that this is due to opening things back up and Memorial Day."

“We’d like to encourage the wearing of a cloth mask in public, washing your hands frequently, knowing the signs and symptoms of COVID-19, self-isolating if you believe you have the signs and symptoms, and consulting your primary care provider if you have symptoms to determine your need for a COVID-19 test is still the safest way,” the Milam County Health Department posted on Facebook earlier today. “With the reopening of businesses, it is important to keep the above items in mind when you decide you need to be out and about. Please remain safe and have a good day.”

There will be another drive-thru testing in Milano in the coming days, but no date has been announced for that so far according to Milam County Health Department Director Robert Kirkpatrick on Monday.
