Rockdale man sentenced for sexual assault of a child
A Rockdale man was found guilty of sexual assault and sentenced to 30 years on Feb. 22. According to the Milam County DA’s Office, after a four-day jury trial, a Milam County jury returned a guilty verdict after deliberation for a little over one hour, finding Ronald Dale Shafer, 55, of Rockdale guilty of a first degree felony for aggravated sexual assault of child younger than six. Assistant District Attorney Brian Price prosecuted the State’s case. The State and the defense reached an agreement on sentencing of thirty years confinement in TDCJ and the defendant waived all rights to appeal. Due to the enhancement of this crime (child younger than six) the defendant will not be eligible for parole at any time during his 30-year sentence. The defendant also pled guilty to two counts of second degree indecency with a child for an additional victim and was sentenced to 20 years confinement in TDCJ.
