Milam voters elect Price, Burks; runoffs set for other races

Milam County voters went to the polls this primary season to elect a new district attorney, tax assessor and two new constables.

Results for the Republican Primary were as follows.

Brian Price won the District Attorney election with 59.27 percent of the vote to Lonnie Gosch’s 40.73 percent.

In the race for Precinct 1 Constable went to Zach Burks with 57.48 percent of the vote to incumbent Oscar Lopez’s 45.52 percent.

There will be two runoff elections in local races.

The the County Tax Assessor Collector race will see Frank Summers and Melissa Fritz in a run-off. Summers won 44.12 percent of the vote. Fritz received 28.44 percent of the vote and Stephanie Charanza won 27.44 percent of the vote.

There will also be a run-off for Precinct 2 Constable between Richard Doug Veach and Carlton R. Scott. Veach received 42.58 percent of the vote. Scott received 25.81 percent of the vote. Amanda Sanders Duncan received 23.28 percent of the vote. Candice Stanton received 8.32 percent of the vote.

All other county races were uncontested. The following were elected: District Judge, 20th Judicial District - John W. Youngblood, Sheriff - Mike Clore, Precinct 1 Commissioner - Henry “Hub” Hubnik, Precinct 3 Commissioner - Art Neal, Precinct 3 Constable - Jay Bethard, Precinct 4 Constable - Kirby Shoemake, Republican Chair - Rebecca Luckey.

There were no local races in the Democratic primary election.

Milam County voters voted overwhelmingly for incumbent District 17 State Representative Stan Gerdes in the Republican primary. He won 61.30 percent of votes in the county to Tom Glass’ 38.7 percent. Across the district Gerdes won 57.83 percent of the vote.

County voters also voted overwhelmingly for District 17 US Representative Pete Sessions in the Republican primary. He won 84.33 percent of the vote in the county to 15.67 percent for Joseph T. Langone. The district also voted for Sessions. He received 84.9 percent of the vote.
