Flood mapping project needs input

Milam County citizens will have their say with regard to a flood mapping project.

Milam County was awarded a Texas Water Development Board Flood Infrastructure Fund grant for a flood planning study in the county. This project will develop hydrologic and hydraulic analysis to identify flood risks.

A public meeting will be held 4 p.m. on June 16 to get public feedback on flood problem areas at the Milam County Courthouse in Cameron.

Project consultants will be on hand to discuss the project.

Currently, Milam County does not have a countywide flood model or stormwater management. The hydrology area includes three total watersheds and portions of seven others within some 1,000 square miles. Work within boundaries totaling 202 stream miles will be analyzed to identify where flood risk is greatest and to evaluate structural and non-structural mitigation strategies.
