Crime Stoppers seeking tips in Coufal death

Milam County Crime Stoppers and the Milam County Sheriff’s Office are asking for help from the public in the murder of 55-year-old Christi Coufal.

Coufal’s body was recovered from the San Gabriel River near Apache Pass on Dec. 5. 

Anyone with video or surveillance footage in certain areas o f Milam County on Dec. 4 or 5 should contact the Milam County Sheriff’s Office. Areas include FM 1600 outside the Cameron City Limits to CR 238. Also the area on CR 429 or Shackles Lane, FM 908 west of 429 to Apache Pass, FM 487 west to FM 1600 to FM 486 intersection and FM 487 and 428.

Coufal’s death is being treated as a homicide until evidence determines otherwise.

Tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at (254) 697-8477 or to milamcounty.crimestoppersweb.com. All tips are anonymous and are eligible for a reward. 

Sheriff Mike Clore earlier this month that his office had no updates concerning the death of Coufal because deputies are still awaiting autopsy results and forensic results. It is believed those results could take several weeks or months due to backlogs and other statewide staffing issues. Clore is urging the public to remain patient while his office continues to investigate every tip in order to bring justice in this case.
