COVID UPDATE: County records 30th death

Milam County has recorded its 30th death due to COVID-19.

“I regret to report our 30th COVID-19 related death in Milam County since the pandemic began,” County Judge Steve Young said Wednesday night. “Another grim reminder of just how deadly this virus truly is. Please remember that this respiratory virus is highly contagious and it can infect anybody with deadly consequences.”

Young said there is some good news as the hospitalization rate fell to 12.36 percent on Wednesday. This is the lowest the rate has been since early December and the second day to be under 15 percent.  If the hospital area stays at 15 percent or lower for seven consecutive days, the business occupancy rate will go back to 75 percent and the bars can reopen.

“Today (Wednesday) we ran a second-round vaccination clinic in Cameron and vaccinated 73 individuals,” Young said. “We also did three first round shots. On Saturday, Feb. 6, we will vaccinate about 260 individuals in Rockdale for their second-round shots. This will be done at the former Rockdale Clinic.”

All clinics will be done by appointment only. These are done by appointment only for the convenience and safety of those getting shots and those giving the shots. If you are called to be vaccinated, please download the applicable consent form, complete the document and bring it with you to the clinic. The form can be downloaded at: http://www.milamcounty.net/upload/page/9873/2nd%20Shot%20Forms.pdf

Call (254) 697-7000 or email Amy Guillen at aguillen@milamcounty.net to get on the vaccination list. Once on the list, the county will call to schedule your appointment, when it is your turn.

Remember one can also get vaccinated in other ways: veterans can call any VA hospital and schedule an appointment; McLennan County has a mass vaccination clinic underway, one can register online at https://covidwaco.com/; Brazos County also has a mass clinic underway, one can register online at http://www.brazoshealth.org/; CVS is now vaccinating in certain areas, learn more at https://www.cvs.com/immunizations/covid-19-vaccine

“Our active infections went down by 10 today, from 132 to 122,” Young said. “However, we had another person hospitalized and two were put on ventilators. We currently have 16 individuals hospitalized and 161 have been hospitalized since the pandemic started.”
