COVID cases hit 20 in Milam County

Milam County’s COVID-10 case has hit 20.

Milam County Judge Steve Young announced just after lunch today that the county was informed at 11 a.m. this morning that a resident living in the western part of the county had tested positive for the virus.

The person was tested in the Round Rock area. They are currently self-quarantined.

That brings the case count to 20 with one death. Eleven people have recovered from the virus and eight cases are still active.

Young said they estimate that between 200 and 250 people have been tested in the county.

The health department is currently monitoring 16 individuals considered at high risk due to close contact with those infected.

“No doubt we will continue to have additional confirmed cases in the county,” Young said. “Remember the virus is alive and well in all parts of the county. The virus is very contagious; the virus kills; and there is no cure. The only thing we can do is prevent the spread is to stay home, wear a mask in public and wash your hands frequently.”

Commissioners lifted the Shelter in Place order for the county during a meeting on Thursday.
