Commissioners decide not to redraw precincts

Milam County residents won’t see any changes to the precinct they belong to.

County Commissioners discussed redistricting during a workshop on Monday, but ultimately voted unanimously to not make any changes. The county had the option of redrawing the districts and discussed making changes, though they were not legally required to do so because their population deviation was less than 10 percent variance.

Commissioners also approved tax abatements for two businesses in Cameron.

They voted to approve a 60 percent abatement over two years for renovations to property at 210 North Houston in Cameron for BTW Properties.

Commissioners also voted 3-1 with Henry Hubnik against for an 80 percent abatement over three years for renovations to Bea’s Kitchen, the JC Penney Building and the former MHMR building for Railfan Capital LLC.

Commissioners also approved speed limit signs on CR 204.
