Commissioners appoint Fritz as county tax assessor

Milam County Commissioners appointed a new Tax Assessor/Collector during a meeting on Monday.

Commissioners accepted the official resignation of Sherry Mueck as County Tax Assessor Collector and appointed Melissa Fritz to the position for the remainder of her term. Fritz won a runoff election for the position against Frank Summers in May. She will take office on July 1.

Commissioners also accepted the resignation of Ward Roddam from the Post Oak Savannah Groundwater District Board of Directors during the meeting. Roddam was named Mayor of Rockdale earlier this month and chose to step down from the groundwater district because of a conflict of interest due to that.

Commissioners agreed to take applications for the position. The applications will be made available to municipalities in the county. The term lasts until the end of 2025.

In other business commissioners also: approved requiring an electronic version of subdivision plats to be submitted with applicable subdivision applications; received an update on the move to the Blake Building for JP 1, JP 2, and DPS; heard a presentation from the Children’s Advocacy Center of Central Texas asking for $10,000 to be included in the budget for services;  and heard department reports for the Milam County Health Department and WIC Program from Jennifer Ranspot.
