Cameron ISD honors board, gets update on Old Yoe construction

Cameron ISD honored its school board members as part of School Board Appreciation Month, heard a report on the progress of the renovations to Old Yoe and heard a report on academic performance during a meeting on Jan. 9.

After campus administrators honored board members, Assistant Superintendent Mistie Dakroub gave a report on the district’s Texas Academic Performance Report.

“The TAPR is public information,” she said. “Anybody can go out and look at it. The majority of it is STAAR scores. I want to bring your attention to the part where we are compared as a district to the state.”

“I really am proud of the career and military ready portion,” she said. “If you look our percentage is 67 percent as compared to 24 percent for the state. We are really excited about that.”

Dakroub said the district is excited about the fact that 64 percent of students in Cameron ISD are earning industry-based certificates.

District results were: SAT/ACT participation – CISD 84 percent/State 85 percent; College Ready – CISD 31 percent/State 53 percent; Career/Military Ready – CISD 67 percent/State 24 percent; CCMR total Ready – CISD 74 percent/State 65 percent; TSI ready – CISD 20 percent/State 40 percent; Dropout rate (9-12) – CISD .6 percent/State 2 percent; Attendance Rate – CISD 95 percent/State 95 percent; IBC graduate – CISD 64 percent/State 18 percent; Dual credit completers – CISD 23 percent/State 26 percent.

The board also heard from Huckabee and EBCO General Contractors about the status of the May 2022 Bond issue.

Representatives for Huckabee said they are currently in the design development faze of construction and have held meeting with staff and administration on what is needed in the building. They are currently conducting engineering studies for the project. He said they are on schedule to have the design documents in May of this year so they can begin construction possible during the summer.

The board also heard campus reports from principals.

In other business the board: accepted a donation of $1.9 million from the Estate of Buddy and Elizabeth Dulin for the establishment of a scholarship to be given to a student going into education, math or science; called for a board election in May for two spots on the board; and approved the construction of a metal sidewalk cover for Ben Milam Elementary.
