Body remains found in abandoned house

Milam County authorities are investigating remains found in a home last week.

On Jan. 11, 2022, Milam County Deputies responded to 1994 Highway 77 in Cameron on a report of possible human remains found in an abandoned house.

According to Milam County Sheriff Mike Clore, deputies arrived and searched the residence, locating the reported remains and the landowners were notified, and a search of the property was conducted.

Clore said it is unknown how long the remains were there. Said remains were transported to Texas State University Forensic Anthropology Center in San Marcos by MCSO Lt. Bill Behler.  There, it was confirmed to be human remains by the staff.

Clore said they also confirmed that the remains that they examined had no trauma.  It was also noted by staff that the remains appeared to be cleaner than normal, bleached, and consistent with medical research.

Forensic examinations will be performed and attempts to obtain DNA will be made.  Anything discovered will be entered into clearinghouses that will assist in identification of the remains.

If anyone has any information that could lead to the identity or back story of the remains, please contact Lt. Bill Behler at the Milam County Sheriff’s Office at (254) 697-7033.
