Area school districts get TEA report cards
Area school districts got their report cards this week and it was good news.
On Monday, the Texas Education Agency released their 2022 accountability ratings for Texas school districts and campuses. Schools are rated on an A-F scale based on three major criteria: student achievement, school progress, and closing the gaps. Schools that earned a rating below a C were Not Rated this year as decided by Senate Bill 1365, which was passed last year.
Cameron ISD earned a B grade with a score of 87. Yoe High scored an 84 to nab a B grade. Cameron Junior High picked up an 80 to get a B and Cameron Elementary was 2 points shy of a B grade.
CISD earned a B in Student Achievement with a score of 86, an A in School Progress with a score of 91 and a C in Closing the Gaps with a score of 79.
Cameron ISD campuses received the following ratings: C.H. Yoe High School a B with a score of 84, Cameron Junior High a B with a score of 80 and Cameron Elementary a C with a score of 78. Ben Milam Elementary is not evaluated but is paired with CES and therefore received a C as well. In addition, C.H. Yoe High School earned Distinction Designations for superior performance and academic achievement in Mathematics, Science and Social Studies.
“Cameron ISD is very proud of its faculty, staff, students and parents for all of their hard work over the last several years,” CISD Superintendent Kevin Sprinkles said. “Our school community has proven to be very resilient and dedicated to ensuring the success of our students. While there are always areas you can improve upon, these most recent Accountability Ratings demonstrate the progress we have made as a district and speak to the excellent educational experience provided to our students every day.”
Sprinkles said Cameron ISD is blessed to have some of the best teachers and educators in the state.
“The staff at Cameron ISD is constantly seeking professional growth and tirelessly strive to create a culture of excellence both in our classrooms and on the courts and fields of competition,” he said. “Our students come to school ready to learn and they understand that the employees of this district love and care for them, as well as set high expectations for their achievement. Our parents and community members trust the school district with their children and work in partnership with the district to support our teachers, staff and our mission. Together, we all work to make Cameron ISD an educational environment that is second to none. Together, we create a culture of enthusiasm, engagement and excellence.”
The TEA said nearly 1,200 districts and almost 8,500 campuses were rated. There were also significant gains in academic achievement per the TEA release. A quarter of all districts and a third of all campuses earned higher grades than previous ratings.
Texas Education Agency released the 2022 Accountability Ratings for Texas public school districts. Texas public school districts and campuses receive an overall rating and score as well as a rating in three subcategories: Student Achievement, School Progress and Closing the Gaps.
The Student Achievement category measures whether students met expectations on the STAAR test. It also measures graduation rates and how prepared students are for success after high school.
The School Progress category shows how students perform over time and how the district’s performance compares to other districts with similar economically disadvantaged student populations,
The Closing the Gaps category tells how well a district is ensuring that all student groups are successful.
Milano ISD earned a perfect score with straight As across the board. The district, high school, junior high, and elementary all earned an A.
Rockdale ISD saw a B score overall. The Elementary, High School, and Intermediate campus each earned a B with the Junior High getting a C grade.
Buckholts ISD picked up a B grade as did Gause ISD. Thorndale earned a B grade with the High School matching the district. The Elementary and Middle School both got Cs.
