Ferguson receives commendation

A Milam County Sheriff’s Sergeant is being commended for his heroics and dedication to save a life. Milam County Sheriff Mike Clore presented Sgt. Sam Ferguson V with the Life Saving Commendation bar in recognition of preservation of life related to an incident on May 22. Ferguson had responded to a medical assistance call on TX36 for a non-responsive resident with low blood sugar. Ferguson arrived ahead of AMR ambulance crews, assessed the situation, and swiftly acted in locating sugar in the residence and placing a pinch of it between the patient’s gum and lip, holding it there until it dissolved. Within seconds, the patient regained consciousness and was responding. Medical personnel then arrived and found the patient still had dangerously low blood sugar levels and took the person to the hospital. Without his actions, that person would likely have died.
