City park to honor Cameron Lions Club

The City of Cameron will partner with the Cameron Lions Club to rename Cameron’s City Park to Lions Centennial Park in honor of the club’s 100th anniversary.

The council approved a resolution for the name change during a meeting on Monday night.

The Cameron Lions Club celebrates 100 years in 2023. The club plans a celebration in the fall for the community.

During the meeting, council also held several public hearings to get comments on special use permits.

Council denied special use permits for the following: to place a HUD Code Manufactured Home at 1609 West Main; a Prefabricated Wood Structure at 504 North Crockett; and a Prefabricated Wood Structure at 506 North Crockett.

Council approved the subdivision application for 806 West 22nd Street in Cameron.

Council also conducted a hearing on the creation of a reinvestment zone for Butler Weldments followed by the first reading of an ordinance creating that reinvestment zone. The reinvestment zone will pave the way for expansion of the Butler Weldments facility.
