UMC youth to return to Cameron for Workcamp ministry

Memorial Drive United Methodist Church’s (MDUMC) youth ministry of more than 225 high school students, college students and adult volunteers combined will travel to Cameron from June 4-10 for their annual service and mission trip, Workcamp. 

Their home base will be C.H. Yoe High School, where campers will eat, sleep, worship and have fun before and after their work days.

MDUMC fosters a deep love and apprecia n for acts of service among students, and never is it more clear than at Workcamp. Monday through Thursday, the group will divide across different work sites to paint, build, clean, and more. 

The main worksites this year will be Cameron Grove Baptist Church, Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Bethel AME Church, and La Primera Iglesia Bautista.

You might find a high schooler nailing shingles on a church roof, constructing a wheelchair ramp, or painting a work of art - the possibilities are endless at Workcamp. Tools and supplies are provided to each of the sites with projects completed at no cost to the local organiza n. 

It is truly remarkable to see the before and after photos of the worksites each year.

Workcamp is a time-honored tradition that has traveled to dozens of Texas towns with thousands of campers for the last 35 years. 

Every year, the youth ministry staff, led by Mark Bogart and Steve Cragg, have created Workcamp from the ground up. Scouting worksites, contacting school districts, creating construction plans and building partnerships throughout the town are just a few of the tasks set before this tenured staff.
